The Comfort of Cashmere: Why you need cashmere in your thermal underwear wardrobe

When it comes to thermal underwear, there's one fabric that stands out above the rest for its unparalleled comfort and luxurious feel: cashmere. Renowned for its softness, warmth, and indulgent texture, cashmere is the epitome of luxury when it comes to thermal wear. At The Foundation, we believe that every woman deserves to experience the ultimate comfort of cashmere in her wardrobe, and here's why.

Buttery Softness

Cashmere is prized for its incredibly soft and smooth texture, which feels like a gentle caress against the skin. Unlike other fabrics that can feel scratchy or rough, cashmere is renowned for its buttery softness that makes you feel pampered and indulged with every wear. Slip into a cozy cashmere top, and you'll instantly understand why cashmere is a must-have in your wardrobe.

Exceptional Warmth

Despite its lightweight and airy feel, cashmere is surprisingly warm and insulating, making it the perfect choice for thermal underwear. The fine fibers of cashmere create tiny air pockets that trap heat close to the body, keeping you cozy and comfortable in even the coldest of temperatures. Whether you're braving the winter chill or lounging by the fireplace, cashmere thermals provide unmatched warmth without the bulk.

Luxurious Indulgence

There's something undeniably luxurious about wearing cashmere, whether it's a soft cashmere sweater or a pair of cashmere leggings. The indulgent feel of cashmere against the skin elevates the everyday experience, making even the most mundane tasks feel like a special occasion. Treat yourself to the luxury you deserve with cashmere thermal layering pieces from The Foundation and experience the ultimate in comfort and style.

Blend is Best

When blended with fabrics like modal or viscose, you have the benefit of warmth and softness from cashmere without the hefty price tag. Caring for a cashmere blend fabric can be a little easier too without sacrificing the warmth and softness.

Personal opinions: I am often sharing my love for our modal and cashmere layering pieces with customers for three main reasons:

  1. They are great for layering - I often wear a long sleeve modal / cashmere top over a sleeveless one of the same colour. This gives you extra warmth without the bulk and you can easily take one off when you get too hot.
  2. They are great to sleep in - Strip off your outer layers, fling that bra off and jump right into bed. That warm hug you have felt all day will continue into the night.
  3. They wash and wear well - The perfect mix of modal and cashmere means it is made of the highest quality yarns and so if you care for it well, it will last your for years to come.

We do know that once you try one, you will be back for more because every woman needs cashmere in her thermals wardrobe.

Stay fabulous!

FAQs

Is cashmere really warm enough for winter thermal wear?

Absolutely. Even though it feels lightweight and airy, cashmere is naturally insulating. It traps body heat thanks to its fine fibers, making it incredibly warm without adding bulk—perfect for layering under winter clothes or lounging indoors.

Can I wear cashmere thermals every day or just for special occasions?

Cashmere thermals are meant to be enjoyed daily! When blended with modal or viscose like the ones we carry at The Foundation, they’re both durable and practical. Whether you're heading to work, relaxing at home, or even sleeping, cashmere feels indulgent without being too precious for everyday wear.

How should I wash and care for cashmere or cashmere blends?

We always recommend reading the care label, but generally, gentle is best. Hand washing or using a cold, delicate machine cycle will preserve the fibers. Avoid fabric softeners and lay your pieces flat to dry. With proper care, your cashmere blend layers will last for years.

What’s the benefit of cashmere blended with modal or viscose?

Cashmere blends give you the best of both worlds—warmth and luxury with added durability, shape retention, and easier care. They're also a bit more wallet-friendly while still offering that beautiful soft feel against your skin.

What are the best ways to style cashmere thermals?

Layer them! A sleeveless cashmere-modal top under a long-sleeve version creates warmth without bulk. They also make excellent sleepwear—just strip off your outerwear and jump into bed in the same comfy layer. You can even dress them up under blazers or cardigans for effortless elegance.
