How often should I be fitted for a new bra? More than you think!

How often should I be fitted for a new bra? More than you think!

So, how often should you bid adieu to your old bras and welcome new ones into your lingerie drawer? While some may swear by replacing your bras every six months like clockwork, the truth is, there's no one-size-fits-all answer to this question.

1. When your body changes, come for a fitting -

As women, we can go through a continual cycle of changes impacting our body such as puberty, weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy, breastfeeding, hormonal changes, illness, surgery and menopause. The old-adage suggests every 6 months but really, if your body is the same, and your lingerie is still supporting you well and in good condition then we might see you a little later than 6 months.

2. When your bra is wearing YOU for support, come for a fitting -

When your bra is wearing you and not the other way around, you need a new one. If they are starting to feel stretched out, the straps are like bungy cords and you have tightened the straps and the back at tight as they will go, you are due for a new one.... maybe don't wait quite so long?

3. When your wardrobe changes, come for a fitting -

Do you find yourself avoiding certain outfits in your wardrobe because you don't have the right bra? Or maybe you feel so self conscious because you know you're in the wrong bra with it showing in all the wrong places? Do yourself a favour and come for a fitting. You own different shoes for different needs and outfits and we think your lingerie drawer is no different.

4. When you are uncomfortable or not sure, come for a fitting -

Many women pop in and ask our fitting team to take a look at the bra they are wearing to help troubleshoot what might be making them uncomfortable. Often this is due to an ill-fitting bra, a very well loved (old) bra or a change in weight and volume of the bust. But sometimes we can just help tighten or loosen the back or straps to improve the support.

But another cause of discomfort is due to not positioning yourself properly in your bra. We have helped many women by just instructing them to bring their side breast tissue away from the underwire to the centre, and then smoothing the upper part of the bust across the top of the cup. This proper adjustment helps avoid any rubbing and discomfort without a single dollar spent. Come and see us if you are not sure.

5. When you are wanting to try something new, come for a fitting -

Just because you have been wearing a size 14E in your favourite bra, it does not mean YOU are a 14E. The bras are sized, not you! Just like you might be wearing a size 14 jeans in one brand and a size 16 in another, every bra is different. I personally wear bras across about 3 different sizes. Our expert fitters usually know when to go up or down a size once we have established your fit in one of our bras. So don't take the risk of trying to guess this in an online "leap of faith". That's what we are here for after all.

Whether you're in need of a little lift, a touch of support, or just some good old-fashioned service, our team of expert bra fitters at The Foundation is here to help you every step of the way.

Come on in, and let's find your perfect fit together!
